Venice mirror – a collection taken “from” the Venice channels, 2011
In fall 2011 I travelled to Venice with a friend. He liked to get up late, so before sunrise I would take the a ferry from the Lido de Venezia to Venice and make use of the perfect morning light, before returning in time to have breakfast with my friend. I will not attempt to describe the magic of Venice – those who have experienced it, know what I mean and those who have not been there yet – well – get yourself going… – While with tree skins and some photos of the upcoming series pattern – I always like to add – this is made by nature – the venice mirror is different. You have nature – that is the rippling water or even the still water and then you have man-made buildings, ships, bridges mirrored in the water, distorted by the waters moves… This play of reflections, light, water, the solid made soft and swimming offers a multitude of pictures – not made by nature – at least not by nature alone – but rather by the interplay of light, shapes and wind.
Some of the pictures tend to have an almost psychedelic quality – which I do like to intensify by fiddling with the colours.
